
Born in New Zealand and representing Tonga internationally, Mataele developed through school rugby at King’s College before progressing into senior pathways. He entered the professional game later than most but quickly established himself through strong performances.
He built his club career in Australia with Manly Marlins and Eastern Suburbs before moving to France to play with Stade Montois in Pro D2. He also earned international recognition with Tonga, representing his country at the Rugby World Cup and in multiple international competitions.
He joined the Seattle Seawolves for the 2026 season, bringing size and physicality to the second row. He adds international experience and lineout presence to the forward pack.
Mataele has earned multiple caps for Tonga and continues to compete at the highest level. Outside of rugby, he enjoys golf and camping.
