
Born in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, Coetzer began playing rugby at the age of seven while in school. He developed through Selborne College before progressing into the University of Pretoria system, where he built his foundation as a fly-half.
He began his professional career with the Houston SaberCats in Major League Rugby, where he quickly established himself as a key playmaker. He became one of the league’s top point scorers and earned recognition for his performances, including All-MLR honors.
He joined the Seattle Seawolves for the 2026 season after four years with Houston. He brings experience as a starting fly-half, with over 350 career points in Major League Rugby and a track record of leading attacking systems.
Coetzer credits his early development to his rugby background in South Africa and continues to build his career at the professional level. Outside of rugby, he works with Belvedere Safaris and enjoys hunting and fishing.
